Surf(board) fishing 030821

23" halibut in a deep hole, leading out to Sea.  One reef, I got to tell you, was about to get swept off the ledge to the stormy rip.  Very sketchy. I know I will die.  I do not say goodbye without regrets, but I say goodbye confident, and with a sense of honor, and a bit of compassion tucked away.  If I can get out of this life without killing someone but me, maybe that means something... The universe looks down on me.;  It does not forget.  Somewhere there is a reward for living to the bitter end.  No one to see, no one to know, but YOU!

Punched in the gut - Surfboardfishing 101720

I came off a left, rode the top, then the bottom dropped out...Damn!  The board circled around as I sank, and perfect timing, slammed into my torso as I folded under the pressure and the immense pain.  Boom!  Ugggghhhh!.  Feeling woozy, I sat up, and two (2) seconds before I blinked and looked, A second (2nd) wave slammed my face into the sand, and I had every orifice filled, and I got real pissed... Everyone better get out of my way!   I calmed down and realized how fun it was.  I have courage, that is great.  I have honor, that is best!  Those who do not risk, and never fail, are the real losers.  They never try, cause they fear a wipe out, so will never know. You can wipe out with me, anytime...  You are my brother in arms, and I pick you up, just as the ocean slams us down.

Ran over a seal and called it a day - Surfboardfishing 080220

Came off a floater, after a deep cutback, looked, and see a seal popping his head up right in my line of fire back to the beach.  I had the momentum and height, and it struck me as how large he/she was when I began to pounce down the crashing wave, and I contemplated why this seal was so close to the beach and in shallow water.  It didn't matter though....I rammed the nose of my board forward, skeg cutting deep, I had no choice. The waves were folding up at the last second.  You had to be ready, cause a peak would pop up in front of you at the last second and pound you into the drink.  No more board. you are eating reef. Much birds diving, seals hoping, and small tiny bait-fish in the lineup.  I casted a few lures but nothing bit, only one small pull.  I called it day and ended my surf-board-fishing-surf-session on the seal note.  The sharks are around!
